Rune Wendelbo is CEO of Abalonyx AS and Graphene Batteries AS. He holds a PhD from the University of Oslo, 1987, and has previously worked with R&D at Sintefs department for catalysis in Oslo, founded Abalonyx AS in 2005, now a well established producer of graphene oxide and Graphene oxide derivatives. He has worked with graphene oxide production and applications in Abalonyx, specifically with scale-up of a safe production process and development of a range of graphene oxide derivatives as well as a range of applications. In 2012 he established Graphene Batteries AS together with Dr. Rahul Fotedar, a company engaged in the development of new and improved cathode materials for batteries taking advantage of our knowledge and access to graphene derivatives. He has about 30 publications and about 20 patent and received ”SINTEFs prize for excellent research” in 2002.

内容摘要

Abalonyx is the largest producer of Graphene Oxide (GO) and GO derivatives in Europe, supplying GO to customers worldwide. We work closely with our customers, partners, and end users to develop new products and applications.
Abalonyx participates in 10 national and international collaborative projects aiming at a range of technologies utilizing GO and GO derivatives. These technologies comprise protective coatings, LiS-batteries and supercapacitors, loudspeaker membranes, fuel-cell membranes, non-linear optical coating, thermal interphase materials, conductive inks, CO2-capture, biomedical scaffolds, water treatment and asphalt reinforcement. These projects will be reviewed.
Our Sister company, Graphene Batteries develops lithium-sulfur battery technology where partially reduced GO (rGO) has a prominent role in stabilizing the sulfur cathode. The rGOs contain hydroxyl, carboxyl and ester groups that bind the intermediate polysulfides via polar/polar interaction1 , thus lead to extended cycle life. We have now achieved 200 cycles with ~99% cycle efficiency (Fig. 1) utilizing a 3D carbon foam impregnated with active sulfur, rGO and a ternary binder system. We also address dendritic lithium plating2 on the anode using a similar approach and have recently demonstrated electrolytic lithiation of the carbon foam. We are currently building 1 Ah pouch-cells and a first demo battery is scheduled to be used in a drone from the Norwegian drone manufacturer, Robot Aviation, in early 2020.
Seeing increased demand for GO and GO derivatives we have ready plans to scale up and fully automating the production of GO and rGO.
