He graduated from Changchun Geology College of China (now is Jilin University of China) in 1985 and received Bachelor of Science in Geology. And in August of the same year, he was recruited into Capital Iron and Steel Company of Chinese Ministry of Metallurgical Geological Exploration Institute. He completed ‘Land Resources and Environment Survey Application and Research of Land Survey Satellite Photos in Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan region’ during his job time, and it awarded respectively ‘Second Prize of National Scientific-Technical Progress’, ‘First Prize of Ministry of Metallurgical Industry’ and ‘First Prize of Ministry of Geology’.

Served as the general manger of Beijing Ying Pu Li Science and Technology Development Company from 1990 to 2000, he accomplished more than 70 mining engineering and industrial projects both at domestic and foreign countries during this decade. 

Awarded the qualification of Senior Geological Engineer in 1997;

As the general manager of Joint Dilute Gold Technology (Beijing) Co. Ltd. from 2000 to 2008, he started to work on developing high-purity rare metal projects and acquisitions of overseas mining. In 2007, he stepped into Central Asia and Russia to do mining right merger and acquisition. 

Mr. Gu Yan was the chairman of Matrass Mining Group Limited, which was founded in Hong Kong in May, 2008. Under his leadership, the company got the mining right of Sugut Gold Mine, Zardalek Nepheline Syenite Mine, Bozmash Limestone Mine and Shuran Coal Mine within five years.

Zardalek Nepheline Syenite Mine is super large one in the world, with the resources up to 7 billion tons. At present, the nepheline syenite is the mineral resources of being utilization, no waste discharge and being economic and social benefits. And its products have alumina, potassium carbonate, sodium carbonate, wollastonite, calcium carbonate, cement and other building materials by industrial production.

In 2012, crystal graphite mine in Da Wu Dian of Inner Mongolia Urad Middle Banner was found and obtained. By being prospected, it was the world biggest crystal graphite mine, and the mineral resources reached to 5.6 million tons.

In May 2012, we joined in China Mining Association, and became the membership.

In November 2012, he was a part-time professor of Earth Science College of Jilin University of China.

In January 2013, we joined in Graphite Committee and became the membership.

In September 2013, he was invited to be a member of council of Secretariat of Global Graphene Alliance (GGA), Beijing, China, and severed as the director of Resource Committee of GGA.

In November 2013, Mr. Gu became a member of the 39th council of Geological Society of China.

In March 2014, Mr. Gu served as Assistant Director and Secretary-general of Mineral Resources Committee of Global Sustainable Development Foundation.

Engaged in mineral development for 30 years, Mr. Gu Yan always adheres to sustainable development and environmental protection, undertakes the social responsibility and sticks to reasonable development, scientific planning and adopting the advanced technology for comprehensive utilization of mineral products. And he also donates medical equipment for local medical institutions, makes donations to help the students, assists the poor and he has established a good relationship of cooperation and mutual assistance with local government and residents.

According to the concept of global resource sustainable development, Mr. Gu Yan insists to the principle of rational allocation of resources in the world and common development of human society. On the basis of scientific development, mineral resources will serve better for production and the life of human beings to promote the human progress and development.
