Graphene has attracted great attention among scientists due to their large specific surface area, outstanding mechanical and electronic properties, and tailored chemical properties. [1-3] Recently, we carried out researches on the surface chemistry of graphene, as well as preparation and applications of graphene-based hybrid structures. We grafted poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) on the surfaces of graphene oxide (GO) sheets by using the amidation reaction of the carboxylic acid groups of GO, as well as the silylation reaction of the hydroxyl and epoxide groups of GO, and found that the grafting approach determined the properties of the resultant composites. [4] In the amidation reaction, the hydroxyl and epoxy groups on the surfaces of GO sheets were removed through a dehydration process, leading to transformation of GO into RGO. The corresponding composite (RGO-g-P3HT) showed unique dual photoluminescent emissions, which were ascribed to the RGO and P3HT components, respectively. For the first time, a ratiometric probe was designed by using a graphene based composite (the dual fluorescent RGO-g-P3HT).[5] Composite films of RGO and conjugated systems such as polythiophene and porphyrins were prepared through a layer-by-layer assembly approach, and the resultant composite films showed enhanced photoresponse due to photoinduced electron transfer from the conjugated systems to RGO in the films. [6] In addition, the graphene-based hybrid structures such as three dimensional (3D) porous structures of RGO, RGO/layered double hydroxide nanowires, and RGO wrapped TiO2 crystals were prepared and demonstrated successful applications in energy storage and photocatalysis.
